What is a Cardiologist?

A cardiologist is a physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system). A suspicion of heart disease is frequently detected by a primary care physician, who will then refer a patient to a specialist, known as a cardiologist (or heart doctor).

When coping with a complex health issue like heart disease, it is critical that you find the right match between yourself and the cardiologist who will provide your care. Your cardiologist will study your medical history, evaluate your symptoms and may recommend further testing before providing a definite diagnosis. Once a diagnosis is made, your cardiologist will determine how to best manage or treat your heart condition based on your individual healthcare needs.
